Ignorant people!  If you say whatever you like, having a confused mind by entering into disputation,
for those who think who is the eminent God, there is no other God except Mahadevan, Siva.

Verse 3 of Saiva Canon 5.100 of Tiru Navukkarasar:

நூறு கோடி பிரமர்கள் நொந்தினார்
ஆறு கோடி நாராயண ரங்ஙனே
ஏறு கங்கை மணலெண்ணி லிந்திரர்
ஈறி லாதவன் ஈச னொருவனே.

Brahman's , numbering one hundred crores perished.  Narayanan-s, of six crores, shared the same fate.
Indrar who are countless like the sand of the superior Ganga, also perished.
It is only Siva, the Lord of the universe who does not perish.

Will my words reach the ears of people who have a mind as hard as a rock, who cherish with love minor
Gods who die many times and are born, thinking them to be possessing divinity.  Siva, is the brilliant light which is praised by Hari and Brahman as their Master.

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru Navukkarasar, as a
General Padigam,  on Siva, and is 5.100 of Saiva Canon.

Verse 1:

Siva, the Chief of the Vedas, the Chief of the people who know the Vedas,  the husband of the lady goddess, Uma, the Master of the great Sages, the Master who is the source of all, the Chief of the star, Ardra,
and the Master of the five Elements, is the God who is the visible embodiment of all virtuous acts.

The teachings of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi / Re: Our Bhagavan-Stories
« on: September 16, 2015, 07:27:45 AM »

Sri Bhagavan has said:

What are sins? Why, for example, does a man drink too much? Because he hates the idea of being bound ? bound by the incapacity to drink as much as he wishes. He is striving after liberty in every sin he commits. This striving after liberty is the first instinctive action of God in a man?s mind.

The teachings of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi / Re: Our Bhagavan-Stories
« on: September 16, 2015, 07:26:28 AM »

Silent Power:  Swami Madhavananda:

On one occasion, probably in 1939, Sri P.M.N. Swamy, a staunch devotee of Bhagavan and secretary
of Sri Ramana Satchidanada Mandali, Matunga, went to the Asramam at Tiruvannamalai to have darshan
of Bhagavan and stayed for the day there with his wife and nine month old child, Ramanan.

They had their breakfast in the common dining hall in the morning.  After finishing they went to wash their hands at the tap outside, leaving child in the Hall.  By this time, Ramanan crawled away somewhere
and could not be seen.  By this time Ramanan crawled away somewhere and could not be seen.  The perturbed father called out to the child as, 'Ramana, Ramana'.

Bhagavan, who was then passing on His way to the meditation hall immediately responded to the call
and the child also was found near the well in the Asramam compound.  The response from Bhagavan
naturally created a little puzzle in Sri P.M.N. Swamy's mind because he thought that the call
'Ramana, Ramana' intended for his child might have been wrongly interpreted by Bhagavan.

Bhagavan was quick to read Sri Swamy's mind and told him: 'Why do you feel puzzled when I
responded to the call?

Is there any difference between this Ramana (meaning Himself) and that Ramana (meaning the child)?'

The Self remains with all beings.

Bhagavan Ramana, on many occasions recommended three books on Advaita, to seekers and devotees.  These are:  Jnana Vasishta, Ribhu Gita and Kaivalya Navaneetham.  Ribhu Gita is embedded in
"Siva Rahasyam", an epic, as advice from Shiva, to Skanda, who in turn advised it to his disciples.
It is a dialogue between Ribhu and Nidagha. The original Sanskrit poem has been translated by one Sri
Bhikshu Sastrigal, also known as Ulaganatha Swamigal, a 19th century Saiva Siddhanta Jnani, into a beautiful Tamizh poem of 1924 verses.  Once Bhagavan presented a copy of Tamizh Ribhu Gita, to Smt. Sampurnamma, for reading and when she wanted to be excused on the ground that  she did  not understand a word of it,

Bhagavan persisted and asked her to read it all the same.  "It does not matter that you do not
understand," He said, "Still it will benefit you."  Thus Smt. Sampurnamma's life, which had the full
potential of becoming one of sorrow and grief, was transformed in to an active and spiritualized way
of life.  The English version, published by Society of Abidance in Truth, California, is available for Rs 200.00 from Sri Ramanasramam and a beautiful Tamizh version, is also available for Rs 100.00.  The Tamzh version has been published by Sri Ramanasramam, itself.  I have started reading the Tamizh poems,
and it is very satisfying.  I request the fellow Forum-members, to get the book and read and share their experiences.

Verse 101 of Kaivalya Navaneetham:

கான நீர் கிளிஞ்சில் வெள்ளி
  கந்தர்ப்ப நகர் கனா ஊர்
வானமை கயிற்றில் பாம்பு
  மலடி சேய் முயலின் கோடு
பீணமாம் தறி புமானில்
  பிரபஞ்சம் எல்லாம் பொய்யே
ஞானம் மெய் மகனே  உன்னை
  நம்மானை மறந்திடாதே. (101)

The whole universe is as unreal as water in a mirage, silver in mother-of-pearl, the city of Gandharvas
in the air,  the dreamland of dream, the blue of the sky, the serpent in a rope, the off-spring of a
barren woman, the horn of a hare, or the thief in a thick post. O Son! Pure Consciousness is alone real.
Do not therefore forget the Self at any moment. (101)

Thus ends the First Section of Kaivalya Navaneetham - titled Tattva ViLakkap Patalam.)

100. Just as the ether, though all-pervading seems to he newly opened in a well which is newly dug,
so Brahman, though ever-present, yet appears as if realized afresh by inquiry into the Self as taught
by a Master or the scriptures.  Therefore, O son, be at peace. We are always the same
limitless Being!  (100)

99. As soon as the entity of a pot is broken up, the ether in the pot becomes indistinguishable from the all-pervading ether. So also when the limitation of the body is gone, the Jivanmukta reverts to the
natural eternal is embodied state of Liberation, free from beginning, middle or end and in or out.

98. The causal body of ignorance is reduced to ashes in the fire of rare jnana;
the visible gross body becomes a corpse in due course; then like a drop of water on red-hot iron,
the subtle body is dissolved in the Self which underlies; these three bodies and remains entire all along.

Verse 96 of Kaivalya Navaneetham:

Manifold karma in store, gathered in many births, is altogether burnt away in the fire of Jnana,
like cotton in a huge conflagration.  Further accumulating karmas can never approach the Jnani.
The karma which has brought about the present incarnation, is exhausted by experiencing its fruits.

Verse 95 of Kaivalya Navaneetham:

Vishnu and Siva, but also secures the rewards of all the Vedic rites, and finally liberation from the cycle of births.

Verse 94 of Kaivalya Navaneetham:

பிரம ஞானிகளும் கர்மப்
 பேதையர் போலே வாழ்ந்தால்
திரமுறு அஞ்ஞானம் போய்ச்
 செனியாத வழியேது என்றால்
பரவும் ஆகாசம் ஒன்றில்
 பற்றாது மற்றை நான்கும்
விரவின தோடும் கூடும்
 விதம் இருவோரும் ஆவார். (94)

But, how are they free from cycle of births, and how is their ignorance gone?  The all pervading
ether remains untainted by anything; the other four elements are tainted by contact with the objects.
So it is with the Brahmavid and the ignorant.(94)
