19.  Tirudh  Dasangam:  Describing the ten aspects of Siva, His name, place, river, mountain etc.,

I propose to give all the ten verses.

O young and pretty Parakeet !  Even as Brahma ensconced on the white Lotus and Vishnu recumbent on the sea of milk, utter reverently the names of our King Of Perunturai, as `the Lord of Aaroor, the salvific Lord, Our God and the God of gods, ` may you chant His Ever-glorious and hallowed names, becomingly.

18. Kuyil  Pathu:  Sending the Cuckoo to Siva as a messenger to explain her love

O dulcet-voiced Cuckoo !  If asked where the Feet twain of our Lord,
are, they are beyond the seven nether worlds If again asked where His effulgent and gemmy crown is,
Lo, it is of ineffable pre-primordiality  He is without beginning, Guna or End.
Call Him to come.

17.  Annaip Pathu - Telling the mother about her love for Siva.

(The answers of the the heroine to the mother, who questions her about the altered state of her
constitute this decade.)

O mother, she says: ``His words are the Vedas; He wears the white Holy Ash;
His body is ruddy;  His drum is Naada !  `` O mother, she also says:
``He whose drum is Naada is the Lord-Master of such masters like Brahma and Vishnu.' '

16. Tirup Ponnoosal - The Holy Swing. Young girls playing in the swing:-

    போரார்வேற் கண்மடவீர் பொன்னூச லாடாமோ  . (1)

O ye damsels whose eyes are verily battling spears !  Its posts are wrought of coral;
Its ropes are chains of pearls and its plank is gold.  Be seated joyfully in the swing.
He graced me ? the cur of a servitor ?, With His feet like unto fresh-blown flowers which were
never beheld by Narayana.  He, in Grace, vouchsafed To me Uttharakosamangkai to dwell in that
Feet!  Singing the Grace of Him who is Nectar insatiable,  we will push the auric swing to make it
move to and fro.

We are all eager to preserve our individual self, which represents
self-respect, respect to our personality and body.  In churches,
we see Priests addressing the listeners:  O sinners!  They keep
quiet.  When they come out, you call one of them, "Aye, Sinner
come here."  He will shoe you.  We are always self conscious,
about our body and self.  You cannot call a short man, O shortie!
or a fat man, O fattie.  He gets angry.

A true sadhak or Jnani does not care about his personality,
which is mindfulness or his body, body consciousness.

Bhagavan Ramana covers both these points in Arunachala
Aksharamanamlai.

In Verse 77, He says:

O Arunachala, you remove the self respect of those who are
are always concerned about their self respect and then shine!

This is removing mind-fulness.

In Verse 85, He says:

O Arunachala, you tonsured (my head) me and danced with
me naked in the Pure Space!

This is removing the body consciousness.

This tonsuring is symbolic. Ascetics tonsure their heads once
in a month on the full moon day.  Bhagavan Ramana did that.
Devotees go to Tirupati and Pazhani and have a tonsure of their
heads.  This is only to remove the personality or body consciousness, at least symblically.

This is the conquest of mind and body.

Arunachala Siva.

Surrender with conviction or sarangati with bhavana, faith is the key.  Bhagavan Ramana told
only two ways.  Atma Vichara, inquiring within, or Surrender, with the conviction, that nothing
is possible by me, only your grace is essential.

Bhagavan Ramana told this to Devaraja Mudaliar who had complained about his incapabiltiy to
do Atma Vichara. "Please surrender and leave the rest to me."  But this surrender totally is also
equally difficult.  We are all experts in partial surrenders.  Give me 10,000 dollars, I shall burn a
candle in the church!  If dollars do not come, no candle is taken to the church.

This bhakti, whose final form is surrender is an exemplary thing. Manikkavachagar says in Tiruvachakam:

"Bhakti valaiyil paduvon kanga."  See, he is caught in my net of bhakti!

He also says:  "Kalivi ennum pal kadal pizhaithuym.."  Escaping the ocean of knowledge!

Measured reading of scriptures and  total surrender are the two essential requisites.

Atma Vichara and Surrender are two sides of the same coin!

Ozhivil Odukkam:

Verse 107:

Abide simply as pure consciousness.  Then delusion will not arise.  If there is the slightest movement in
consciousness, will not the world of diversity shoot forth like a sky rocket? This state of Samadhi can be
compared to the perfect alignment of the pointers on a pair of scales.  If that state arises, you will be
a king of Jnana. Who will be your equal?

T.C.S. explains the image as follows:  our consciousness is like a pair of scales with stones in one pan
and gold in the others in the other;   the stones are the state of kevalam - unconsciousness and the gold
is chakalam -- the waking state.   The scale has two pointers: the lower pointer is the anma - jiva
or soul, which moves as the arm of the scales moves, and the upper pointer is arul -- Grace which
does not move.  When the two pans are in perfect balance, and the two pointers are therefore perfectly
aligned, this denotes the state of Samadhi, when the consciousness is perfectly aligned with grace, and
in which therefore the delusion of the world and its modifications does not appear.  The word arul is
simply another way of referring to the Self, especially when thought of in its dynamic aspect, as conferring
or facilitating realization. The term chakalam denotes the state in which the Jiva is active, under the influence of tattvas, and kevalam, the state of unconsciousness, as in deep sleep. The state which is being described her is a state of vigilant awareness, in which awareness is neither wandering lost amidst sense objects under
the influence of the mind and senses, nor is it sunk in the blankness of the unconscious state.

"That is the state of a Jnani.  It is neither sleep nor waking but intermediate between the two.  There is the awareness of the waking state and the stillness of sleep.  It is called Jagrat Sushupti.. Go to the root of
thoughts and you reach the stillness of sleep.   But you reach it in the full vigor of search, that is, with perfect
awareness."  (Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi Talk No. 609)
