Verse 30:

    கறவா மேபால் பொழிந்தனவால்.

The kine too were happy beyond measure;
Though they were parted from their calves
When they beheld him -- the calf of the Gospels --,
They neared him and melted in motherly love for him;
They bellowed in joy and with the tug of teats
From their udders, milk suffused profuse.

Verse 29:

The homa-cows which helped the Brahmins conduct
Their sacrifices, grew more and more beauteous;
Their yield of milk was multifold; the Brahmins were
Therefore happy that it was thus as the Brahmachari
Tended the Kine with such loving care.

During those days, the herds of kine grew beauteous
And increased; as with sweet grass and tasty water
They were fed full, they were happy in their mind;
This caused the swelling of their udders
With milk pure and sweet, whence it suffused day and night.

On the banks of the Manni and abutting the pasture land,
And nigh unto the beds of that river, and also
On the gardens of Maruta realm where pearls abound,
He would graze the increasing herds, collect samita-sticks
And also sticks of Arani and would return before night;
For many a goodly day this was his routine.

During the season when grass grew thick
He grazed them well; he would himself pluck grass,
Feed them and thus foster them; he would rid them
Of their dread, lead them to cool fords where they could
Drink tasty water and caused them to rest under
Leafy umbrage; when it was time for nectarean milking
He would drive them to the doors of their owners.

He fared forth with the rope and the crook, and his little tuft
Waved in the wind; his sacred-thread dangled on his chest
And it was knit to a piece of deer-skin; he was
Clad in his bright Kovanam; he daily drove the team
Afield for grazing where they had their fare aplenty;
In due time calves and milch increased.

"I'll myself henceforth graze the kine" he said;
Affrighted the cow-herd bowed before him
And gave up his calling; with the leave of the Brahmins
He tended the great herds; the divine Brahmin-boy
Fostered the cows as rain would, the green crops.

He concluded: "There is no duty superior to that
Of grazing and fostering the kine with their calves
In the proper and pleasing way; this indeed is the way
To hail the feet of the Lord who dances in the Ambalam."
Then addressing the neathered he said: "Refrain
From grazing the kine henceforth.

General Discussion / Re: Rough Notebook-Open Forum

I shall continue with stray Tamizh verses.  Most of us know Guru Namasivaya who was the disciple
of Guhai Namasivaya. Both Guru Namasivaya and Guhai Namasivaya were living in Arunachala and
have sung many songs on Arunachaleswarar. These have been published by Sri Ramanasramam.

Guru Namasivaya has also sung some stray verses.  He once went to Chidambaram to have darshan
of the Dancing God of Golden Court, Nataraja in Chidambaram.  Upon seeing Nataraja he sang:

O Siva who gives boons to devotees everyday without fail,
I shall make one request to you.  You are ever dancing keeping your gunchitapatam, raised.
While your left foot is ever raised, to protect the devotees, your right foot is ever stamping on
Apasmara, Muyalakan, the demon.  Are you not getting tired like this, for ever keeping one raised foot and keeping the other foot stamping on the demon?  Why not you stop and take rest for some time?

The perennial dance, Anavarata Tandavam can never stop. If it stops, the universe will cease to exist,
with everything becoming  cosmic dust.  And a new kalpa has to start.  Even though the illustrious
poet knows this, he sang out of compassion for the restless Siva.  The ever dancing Siva, is
Achala in Tiruvannamalai and the Mother who was watching His dance in Chidambaram, has merged
into Him, as Ardhanari, in Tiruvannamalai.  See Bhagavan Ramana's Navamani Malai verse 1.

"The Non-moving Siva dances [moves] in Chidambaram in his
cosmic dance, while Achala, the Mother, Sivakamavalli is watching. He is Achalan, the Non moving with Mother, Achalai. merging into Him and that is Arunachala, please understand!"

Varatunga Rama Pandyan, was a later period chieftain, with the suffix name of Pandyan.  While he
was in his death bed, his wife asked him whether he was afraid of death.  The poet-king replied:

Why should I be afraid, my dear wife?
I am seeing Siva's abhaya hand.
I am seeing his bracelets with wreathed serpents.
I am seeing his waist cloth made of tiger's skin.
I am seeing his red matted locks with crescent moon.
I am seeing his golden feet with nicely sounding anklets.
I am seeing his grace-emitting divine face.
I am seeing his three starry eyes.
I am seeing his neck with the dark poison mark.
I am seeing his sacred thread, which are again snakes!
I am seeing his forehead with vibhuti in three lines.
I am seeing his pick axe and the fire on his hands
I am seeing the slender-waisted Uma on his left.
I am seeing the white total form of Siva, Pal Vannan.
Where is the fear for me?
Why should I be afraid?

If every devotee could see such god's divine form, without any thought of dying, such vision alone
should take him to the god's abode, without fail.

(From The Teachings of St.John of The Cross.)

(From Jan. Mar. 2015 of Mountain Path)

St. John of the Cross, along with St. Teresa and St. Francis, is known as the grand mystic.  He was
not only a mystic and least ambitious of saints, but also a philosopher, poet, theologian and spiritual
teacher, whose life was his message.  He was orderly, systematic and clear in his writings. He had
great analytic ability and psychological insight, and followed the psychological method instead of
metaphysical.  Though a contemplative he was an active organizer and was connected with the Counter
Reformation.  Regarded as an introvertive mystic he emphasized the absence of imagery in mystical
consciousness.

Among his well known works are the The Ascent of Mount Carmel, The Dark Night of the Soul, The
Spiritual Canticle and The Living Flame of Love.  Of all these, The Dark Night of the Soul is the most
original works of Saint John of the Cross.

"In his works he has touched lightly upon the lower stages of the spiritual journey but the grace
and eloquence and power with which he writes of the more ethereal realms have perhaps been
exceeded by no other mystic in all literature.  Parts of his work are beyond description.  They can only
be read with the hushed reverence of a receptive soul."

O Mother Abhirami, Who has got red form!  Your beautiful pair of legs are ever on my head!
Your holy mantra is only Your form, which is ever in my heart.  I shall ever be united with you, O
Mother, and I shall never leave the company of Your devotees. I shall ever do parayanam everyday
only your Agmas and their guidance.

532:  When the Jiva, turning back and returning along the way it came, enters the source, it will drown
completely in its intrinsic nature and, and in so doing, as the bliss of its own nature m manifests clearly
within its own understanding, it will abide motionless in that state.

638.  If you do not focus your attention on anything objectively but instead turn your attention onto
itself, everything will flourish as one's own Self, as the infinite eye of Jnana.  Afterwards, objective
knowledge becomes a madness.

640.  Instead of investigating and realizing the Self as the reality in which there is no coming or going,
and experiencing there the ecstasy of the lofty heights of bliss, oh how marvelous it is that we wander
and suffer deeply to attain the supreme bliss that would shine if we would only keep still!

643.  Since the Self, that which exists, is clearly apprehended as the Aham (the 'I'), the light of consciousness
that is free of ignorance, is directly perceived (pratyaksha), and not the objects that come within the rangeof the faculty of sight.  Therefore seek that Self.

647.  If you remain still, without paying attention to this, without paying attention to that, and without
paying attention at all, you will, simply through the powerful attention to being, become the reality,
the vast eye, the unbounded space of consciousness.
