297.  This Ignorance, which has the world-form,  appears as real to the ignorant ones, in the Supreme
Being, (who is Consciousness), as jewels, which are unreal, appear as real in gold (which is relatively
real). 

298.  If it be asked, 'How is it said that gold is real,  but jewels are unreal', (the answer is that) the
words are used by our Guru in order to show that the world, which is the subject of comparison,
is unreal.

299.  Since a simile is used for conveying a clear knowledge of the subject of the teaching, the simile
is so presented as to convey the intended meaning.

300.  The jewels were only gold before; they are only that in the middle, and they are that in the end
also.  As compared to the jewels, gold is relatively real because the jewel-forms are transient,
they are unreal.

301.Here impermanence alone is the test of unreality;  permanence itself is affirmed as the quality
of reality.  Hence it follows that ignorance and the world which is born of it, are unreal, exactly
like the serpent in a rope.

302.  Or, as the moving pictures, pass across the un-moving lighted screen in a cinema show,
so the series of pictures, namely the world,  comes and goes on the substratum, the Real which
is un-moving.                 

303.  But in respect of the moving pictures the seer is distinct from them, whereas in the world
pictures the seer is included.   Thus the world differs from the cinema show; the result is that the
world and its seer (the individual) are both unreal.

பல்கு தொண்டர்தங் குழாத்தொடும்
    உடன்வரும் பயில்மறை யவர்சூழச்
செல்க திப்பயன் காண்பவர்
    போல்களி சிந்தைகூர் தரக்கண்டு
மல்கு தேவரே முதலனைத்
    துயிர்களும் வணங்கவேண் டினவெல்லாம்
நல்கு தில்லைசூழ் திருவெல்லை
    பணிந்தனர் ஞானஆ ரமுதுண்டார்.   


With the holy throng of devotees
And the Brahmins that came with him
Chanting the Vedas,
With a mind that swelled in ever-increasing joy
He beheld the bourne of Thillai;
He was like unto them steeped in sheer delight
That eyed the destination divine of their life?s odyssey;
For the very bourne of Thillai grants to all lives
--From Devas, the highest, to the lowest--,
The very wish sought by them, when they hail it;
He that had partaken of the nectar of Wisdom
Adored the divine borders that bound Thillai.

வண்டி ரைத்தெழு செழுமலர்ப்
    பிறங்கலும் மணியும் ஆரமும்உந்தித்
தண்ட லைப்பல வளத்தொடும்
    வருபுனல் தாழ்ந்துசே வடிதாழத்
தெண்டி ரைக்கடற்பவளமும்
    பணிலமும் செழுமணித் திரள்முத்தும்
கொண்டு இரட்டிவந்து ஓதமங்கு
    எதிர்கொளக் கொள்ளிடங் கடந்தேறி.   

The river that in its current carried flower-bunches
Buzzed by bees, gems and sandal-wood
And also the wealth of the groves and gardens,
In lowly worship washed his feet.
The backwaters scattering away coral, chanks,
Other gems and heaps of pearls which they had
From the lucid billowy main carried,
Flowed before him to receive him.
Thus, even thus, he crossed the Kollidam.

    உறைபதி நடுவுகண் டனபோற்றி

    கேதகை முகிழ்விரி மணஞ்சூழப்
புள்ளு டைத்தடம் பழனமும்
    படுகரும் புடைகழிந் திடப்போந்து
கொள்ளி டத்திரு நதிக்கரை
    அணைந்தனர் கவுணியர் குலதீபர்.   


Adoring on the way, the many shrines of the Lord
Who dances at the dead of night,
He passed through the spacious fields--the haunt
Of waterfowls--, and meadows rich with the scent
Of blooming, fragrant screw-pines
Of white and thorny leaves,
And reached the bank of the divine Kollidam.

    தாதையார் தம்மோடும்
மேவியசீ ரடியார்கள்

பூவின்மே லயன்போற்றும்
    புகலியினைக் கடந்துபோய்த்
தேவர்கள்தம் பெருந்தேவர்
    திருத்தில்லை வழிச்செல்வார்.


The Chief of Vengkuru accompanied by his father,
The flawless Yaazh-p-Paanar,
And devotees of fitting glory, left Pukali
Where Brahma whose seat is the Lotus, adores,
And set foot on the way leading to Thillai--
The shrine of the great Lord of the celestial beings.

    பெருந்தவத்தாற் பெற்றெடுத்த

வெள்ளிமால் வரையென்னத்
    திருத்தோணி வீற்றிருந்த
புள்ளிமா னுரியாரைத்
    தொழுதருளாற் புறப்பட்டார்.


When the godly child thus spake to his father,
The great patron whose tapas has gained
For him the divine child as his son,
Rejoiced in his mind as he was to accompany him,
They fared forth to the Ark-Temple
Like unto the argent and huge mountain,
To adore its Lord clad in deer-skin;
Hailing Him they departed with His leave.

Tirujnaana Sambandhar who abode at Sirapuram
Was goaded by a great and flooding love
To adore and hymn the Lord-Dancer
Of celebrated Thillai; he divined this to be
The divine wish of the Lord; of this he informed
His father, the saintly tapaswi.

மற்றதற்குப் பிள்ளையார்
    மனமகிழ்வுற் றிசைந்தருளப்
பெற்றவர்தாம் தம்பிரான்
    அருளிதுவே யெனப்பேணிச்
சொற்றமிழ்மா லையின்இசைகள்
    சுருதியாழ் முறைதொடுத்தே
அற்றைநாட் போலென்றும்
    அகலாநண் புடன்அமர்ந்தார்.   


He who was graced with the consent
Of the divine child, thought thus:
"This is surely the Lord's own grace."
From that day he played on his tuneful Yaazh
His divine decades which were garlands
Of Tamizh verse, and abode with him
As on that day, without parting,
Blessed with his friendship.

    இசையாழில் இட்டடியேன்
பிறிவின்றிச் சேவிக்கப்
    பெறவேண்டும் எனத்தொழுதார்.   

The great Paanar that on his Yaazh played
The divine decades of the divine child
Who knew all the Vedas and who was verily an elephant cub,
Addressing him, said: "Be pleased to bless me
To play on the Yaazh all the divine decades
You are to hymn in grace, hereafter;
May I never part from your holy company;
May I ever adore you." Thus he prayed.

காழியார் தவப்பயனாம்
    கவுணியர்தம் தோன்றலார்
ஆழிவிட முண்டவர்தம்
    அடிபோற்றும் பதிகஇசை
யாழின்முறை மையின்இட்டே
    எவ்வுயிரு மகிழ்வித்தார்
ஏழிசையும் பணிகொண்ட
    நீலகண்ட யாழ்ப்பாணர்.   


He decades, sung by the scion of the Kauniya clan
That came to be born as the fruit of the tapas
Wrought by the residents of Kaazhi,
In praise of the feet of the Lord
Who ate the ocean's venom
Were played on the Yaazh by Neelakanta Yaazh-p-Paanar
Whom the seven-fold music obeyed; thus he gladdened
All the lives on earth.

பிள்ளையார் அருள்பெற்ற
    பெரும்பாணர் பிறையணிந்த
வெள்ளநீர்ச் சடையாரை
    அவர்மொழிந்த மெய்ப்பதிகம்
உள்ளபடி கேட்டலுமே
    யுருகுபெரு மகிழ்ச்சியராய்த்
தெள்ளமிர்தம் அருந்தினர்போற்
    சிந்தைகளிப் புறத்தொழுதார்.


The great Paanar who was blessed
By the divine child, heard the servitors sing
The truth-incarnate decades of the child
On the Lord who wears on His matted hair
The crescent and the Ganga; with a melting mind
He rejoiced and grew glad as though drunk
With great nectar; then he prayed ecstatically.

Bhagavan Ramana did not much recommend Raja Yoga marga, because this method is considered
tough and any mistake will result in negative consequences. The Kundalini Power is a double edged
sword and one has to be extremely cautious about it.  But Sri Sankara did recommend.  In case of
Kavyakanta Ganapati Sastri, he had this unbearable burning sensation in the crown when he was
practising in Tiruvottiyur and Bhagavan Ramana had to go in his subtle body skyward
and place His hand on Sastri's skull, to quell the heat and burning sensation. 

With an experienced teacher, the Raja Yoga is quite good.

My first darshan of Sri Bhagavan was in May 1942, when I was twenty six years old.  Though I had been
to Chidambaram several times as a student pursuing my Bachelor of Science, I had not the opportunity
to see Bhagavan in spite of my desire after I knew of the Sage in 1935.

It was only after my marriage with Rukmani, daughter of Gridhalur Satya Narayana Rao, the brother of
Sambasiva Rao from Nellore, who were great devotees of Bhagavan, that my association with Him began.
It was also I feel, by the blessings of Bhagavan that our alliance was finalized as we had no horoscope  for
me and Rukmani's family were also strong believers in astrology.

The quite arresting very first darshan of Bhagavan clearly distinguished Him from all other saints and
sadhus I had seen before.  He seemed to live apart from the physical form and was quite detached from it.
His look had a remarkable spiritual charm that absorbed the attention of all with magnetic force.  When
He spoke, the words seemed to come out of an abyss. One could see immaculate purity and non attachment.
His movements were very refined, lofty and sacred.  In His vicinity one's mental distractions were over powered by a pervasive austere and potent calmness.

The unique bliss of His was directly experienced by all, that is, there was a blissful  atmosphere around
Bhagavan.  In the ecstasy of Grace one loses one's separate individuality and there remains  something
holy and all pervading which devoured one's personality!  This indeed is the Spirit of Arunachala which
swallows up the whole Universe by its gracious effulgence.

Today is the liberation day of Somachi Mara Nayanar.  He attained the feet of the Lord by doing
Soma Yagam, (with Sama Veda) for a number of days, with ardent bhakti towards Siva.
In course of time, he attained mukti by attaining the feet of the Lord Siva.

I have given the detailed account of Somachi Mara Nayanar in my posts on 63 Saiva Saints. 
The Forum members are requested to go through the same.
