The teachings of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi / Re: Our Bhagavan-Stories
« on: December 24, 2015, 07:23:35 AM »

During Bhagavan Ramana's time, when they renovating Arunachaleswara Temple, they found a
stone slab near the Siva Linga, and on removing it, they found a dark tunnel.  They immediately
rushed to Bhagavan and asked Him what to do. Bhagavan Ramana said: "Do not try to investigate
the tunnel. Please close the stone slab, as it was before."  Arunachala Puranam says that yogis,
siddhas and jnanis who are living in the Hill as forms of bright lights, come through the tunnel,
in their subtle bodies and pray to Arunachaleswara at night. I do not know whether one believes
this since you are not believing many things.  Arachelogists have in fact found that the Hill is as old
as the earth itself, geologically, say about 3 billion years old and is older than Himalayas. But if they
try to dig it and find something, they would find nothing, since the treasures may not be visible to their biological eyes.  Recently, some company took lease of the far-western portion of the Hill, and wanted to dig and take ferro-aluminum alloy ore.  People in the villages nearby protested and the project was abandoned under a High Court Order. It is like Mackenna's Gold.  Gold is there in the Appachian Mountains, but if
any one tries to take it, they will not return alive.

Bhagavan Ramana has said:

All answers come from within, the answer is the inquirer.  The Guru outside pushes you in and the Guru
inside pulls you from within.

Arunachala Siva.

Verse 7:

O mother,
are these too a few of your traits?
He is the peerless One Impossible to know of by the many celestial;
He is The God of sublime greatness.
When divine instruments Blare His glory,
you would ope your lips and say:
`` Even before the sound `Tennaa` is uttered,
you would Melt like wax in fire.
Now listening to our several praises Of Him as `my Chief,
my Monarch and my nectarean One` Will you still slumber on?
Like the addle-pated and hardened ones,
you lie abed in indolence.
What can We say of the greatness of such sleep,
Empaavaai !

While the body requires at least 8 hours of sleep daily, it also requires it at a particular time
when it will enable optimum performance for its maintenance activities.  Your sleep should follow
the natural rhythm for it be to beneficial.  Generally, sleeping between 10 pm and 6 am is good
for the body.  It is even better if you can sleep earlier, say 9 pm. and wake up at to the call
of the birds.  You cannot go to sleep at 2 am. and wake up at 10 am. and think that you are giving
the body adequate rest. It is said every hour of sleep before midnight is worth two hours after it.

There is an old saying that early to bed and early to rise makes one healthy, wealthy and wiser.
If we look at the nature, every creature generally goes to sleep early after sunset and wake up
early in the morning. We too have to emulate them,  It is not good to sleep after sunrise as  the sun
rays are not good for sleeping. Your sleep will be disturbed and you and you will have more dreams
if you sleep after sunrise. At night, your body produces melatonin, a harmone that makes you sleepy.
During the day, sunlight triggers the brain to inhibit melatonin production so you feel awake and alert.
Therefore, sleeping in the day time is not a healthy practice.

General Discussion / Re: Laghu Vasudeva Mananam:

This part of the doubt is answered. How are we to know that the Atman is without Vastu
parichcheda (limitation by identical things?

As Atman is all pervading, it cannot have limitation by identical things.  Things are differentiated
by three kinds of limitations.  - Sajatiya (limitation by things of its own nature)  Vijatiya  (limitarions
of things different from  it).  Svagata (internal differences).

The difference of one tree from another tree is Sajatiya difference.  The difference between a tree
and other substances like stone, mud, etc., are Vijayita differences or the differences between objects.
When the differences with in tree itself, i.e.between its flowers, fruits, branches, trunk etc.,
are taken into account, we are referring to Svagata bheda or internal differences. As none of these
differences are possible regarding the Atman, we have to conclude that the Atman is without any
kind of differentiation.

Of devotees, and we now proceed to hail
Their great country, watered by the cool Kauveri.
