Today is the liberation day of Isai Jnaniyar, the Mother of Tiru Jnana Sambandhar.  As mother of the great
Siva Jnani, she also attained liberation.

The day is Chitrai month Chirtai star day.

Quietly insistent, these dedicated contemplatives  -- often martyrs for their faith -- have  urgently spoken
out for everyone of good will whenever they have touched the true light within themselves in profound
reflection and in all simplicity.  They have ever upheld the perennial philosophy, expressing the essential
goodness and wisdom at the heart of all the great world religions.  In so doing they have provided a reassuringly sane and balanced response to the barbaric atrocities seen throughout history and now witnessed to our consternation in our own day.

Faith is hardly amenable to reason, but even so what you notice around you depends on how you look.
When we view things deeply with the eyes of love and in the light of faith, you will find signs of great goodness
breaking through on all sides - clear evidence of a merciful background, which is the invisible foundation of all
all activity, whether wholesome or pernicious. 

Silent and ignored, because it can only be intuitively known and defies scientific scrutiny, still this ground of
being endures in the midst of both cynical disbelief and unquenchable hope.  This deepest truth insists even in the midst of both cynical disbelief and unquenchable hope.  This deepest truth insists even in the midst of
the heedless destruction of war -- pain too terrible to contemplate -- but it can only be realized then in the
obscure darkness of a faith unadorned by the niceties of creed or ritual and lit up simply by love.

34: வந்தே சரணம் புகும் அடியாருக்கு, வானுலகம்
தந்தே பரிவொடு தான் போய் இருக்கும்--சதுர்முகமும்,
பைந் தேன் அலங்கல் பரு மணி ஆகமும், பாகமும், பொற்
செந் தேன் மலரும், அலர் கதிர் ஞாயிறும், திங்களுமே.

தாயே! அபிராமி, நீ நான்முகங்களையுடைய பிரம்மனின் படைப்புத் தொழிலில் இருக்கின்றாய்! பசுமையான தேன் கலந்த துபள மாலையையும், நவமணி மாலைகளையும் அணிந்த மார்பினனாகிய திருமாலின் மார்பில் இருக்கின்றாய்! சிவபெருமானின் இடப்பாகத்திலும், பொன் தாமரை மலரிலும், விரிந்த கதிர்களுடைய சூரியனிடத்திலும், சந்திரனிடத்தும் தங்கியிருக்கின்றாய். உன்னைச் சரணமென்று வந்தடையும் பக்தர்களைத் துயரங்களிலிருந்து நீக்கி, வானுலக வாழ்வைக் கொடுப்பவள் நீயே.

O Mother Abhirami!  You are the One who is the four faced Brahma and do the act of creation.  You are
the One who is on the chest of Vishnu, who wears the green tulsi garlands and garlands of nine precious
gems!  You are also in the Sun with spreading rays and also in Moon.  You are the One who removes the
sufferings of devotees who came to Your feet, seeking surrender, and also gives them the Heaven.

Yes. Chitra Pournami is quite famous in Tiruvannamalai and also in all the temples of Siva in Tamizh Nadu.

Once I observed a Muslim talking to Bhagavan. I imagined he was having a talk on religious and philosophical
matters.  After he left Bhagavan told me, 'You are sorely troubled as you have debts. I have', he added
laughingly, 'a debt of Rs 500 because I have bought some soaps, mirrors etc., in shops, besides grocery
in provision stores!'

I learned that the previous Sarvadhikari (Manager) of the Asramam had contracted all these debts.  I was
greatly distressed to hear.  So I went to Madras and told a rich bhakta of the state of affairs. He came to
Tiruvannamalai, scolded the shop keepers for having on credit things to a man who proposed to act for the
Asramam, and settled the claims by paying Rs. 250.

Once when Bhagavan and I were conversing, Bhagavan told me the following:  'There was once a Saint to
whom crowds used to go under the impression he had wonderful powers. He used to tell hem he had no
such powers and that therefore they need not come and disturb him.  Observing this, one bhakta took it
upon himself to explain to all who came there, 'this Saint has no powers.  You need not come here.'
This pleased the Saint. He fell for this subtle form of flattery.  Some have been freed.  Some have a desiire
for fame.  Silarukku Peerasai; Silarukku per aasai. Some people are greedy; some cover fame.

11.  Because of ignorance, the Self is believed to be limited to the body, enjoying and suffering, bound
by bonds of desire to the world, ignorant and distinct from the Supreme Being.  Really the Self is identical
with Him, not the other.

12. Hence the world-wandering of the self is just a myth. But this can be verified only in the mind-free
State.  'Apart from the mind there is no bondage to life in the world.' (Viveka Chudamani).

13. As one seeing the false snake fails to see the real rope, so, seeing the world -- wherein are included
Personal God and the individual soul  -- does not see the Real Self as He really is, i.e. as the Supreme
Reality (Brahman).

14.  The Self will remain concealed so long as the world taken as real.  It will cease to be so taken,
when the mind is once for all extinguished; hence one must strive for extinguishing the mind.

Verse  571:

(I will show you an example).  This bondage or liberation -- both of them are false, the qualities of the
intelect.  Fools attribute them to the Atman, as we impute to the sun the covering of the eyes by the clouds;
because the Atman is One without a second -- unattached, uniform, unconscious, unchangeable.

Verse  572:

'This exists' or 'This does not exist'  are the two qualities of the intellect.  Really, they do not exist
in the Atman, which is beyond them both.

Verse  573:

Therefore, these two -- bondage and freedom -- are both in Maya and not in the Atman, which is part-less,
action-less, quiet, free from impurities, spotless, without defect, and stainless.  How can there be any
imagination in Him who is non dual, supreme, and universal like the sky?

Verse 574:

There is no birth nor death, neither bondage nor aspirant, neither one who desirous of liberation nor one
liberated.  This is the ultimate Truth.

   நதியும் பருவம் மாறுதலும்
நீரின் இயன்ற உணவருகி
   நிலவும் பலமன் னுயிர்களெலாம்
பாரின் மலிந்த இலம்பாட்டில்
   படர்கூர் வறுமை பரந்ததால்.


After a few days when he thus throve
In sacred service, as rains failed, the Ponni
Of unfailing foison, ran dry; food grains that grow
By water became scarce; many lives caught
In this utter want, came to be immersed in misery;
Indigence spread everywhere.

பன்னாள் பிரியா நிலைமையினால்
   பயிலக் கும்பிட் டிருப்பாராய்
அந்நாள் மறையோர் திருப்பதியில்
   இருந்தார் மெய்ம்மை அருந்தவர்கள்.


Of yore, Brahma and Vishnu could not
Behold the crown or foot of the Lord who is verily
An auric hill of beauty; He is enshrined
In beauteous Veezhimizhalai with water well-endowed;
Him he hailed; unable to part from Him,
For many a day he hailed Him there;
The two tapaswis of truth and the servitors
Abode there where Brahmins abide.

கைகள் குவித்துக் கழல்போற்றிக்
    கலந்த அன்பு கரைந்துருக
மெய்யில் வழியுங் கண்ணருவி
   விரவப் பரவுஞ் சொல்மாலை
செய்ய சடையார் தமைச்சேரார்
   தீங்கு நெறிசேர் கின்றார்என்
றுய்யு நெறித்தாண் டகம்மொழிந்தங்
   கொழியாக் காதல் சிறந்தோங்க.


Folding his hands he adored His feet;
Love in him began to melt; his eyes rained tears
On his body; then he hailed the Lord
In a garland of words which oped thus:
"They that reach not the Lord of ruddy matted hair
Reach but the evil way." He hymned this
Redeeming Tandakam and stood riveted in love.

முன்றில் வணங்கி முன்னெய்தி
   முக்கட் செக்கர்ச் சடைமவுலி
வென்றி விடையார் சேவடிக்கீழ்
   விழுந்தார் எழுந்தார் விம்மினார்.



They moved into the temple where the Lord
Of Veezhimizhalai who wields as bow the ruddy auric hill,
Abides willingly; they circumambulated the shrine;
They adored Him from the entrance;
They moved in and came near the triple-eyed Lord
Of ruddy matted hair who rides the victorious Bull;
Vakeesar fell at His roseate feet, rose up
And trembled in sheer ecstasy.

   மறையோர் வாயின் மணிவிளக்கு
நீடு கதலி தழைப்பூகம்
   நிரைத்து நிறைபொற் குடமெடுத்துப்
பீடு பெருகும் வாகீசர்
   பிள்ளை யாரும் தொண்டர்களும்
கூட மகிழ்ந்து விண்ணிழிந்த
   கோயில் வாயில் சென்றணைந்தார்.

The Brahmins decked the mansions that stood
Circling the shrine; their thresholds and pials
Were decorated with plantain trees, leafy areca trees
And beauteous lamps; they carried with them pots
Of holy water; the city flourished in greater glory;
Vakeesar whose glory for ever grows
And the godly child were thus received;
In sheer joy all of them fared forth to the temple
Of the celestial Vimana.

Tirunavukkarasar who came (first)
To Veezhimizhalai and the godly child of Seerkazhi
Were received by Brahmins and servitors
Of the Lord who is unknown to Vishnu-the wielder of disc,
In love that welled up from their hearts;
These adored them and they hailing these, moved in.

வார்ந்தாடுஞ் சடையார்தம்
   பதிபலவும் வணங்கியுடன்
சேர்ந்தார்கள் தம்பெருமான்
   திருவீழி மிழலையினை.


The Lord of Akkoor's shrine is Tan-Tondri-Madam
And its Lord is the refuge of seekers;
They adored Him in abounding love
And with flawless garlands of Tamizh verse decked Him.
Then they visited the many shrines of the Lord
Whose matted hair waves in the wind,
And adored Him; then the two reached
Tiruveezhimizhalai of their Lord.

   கழலிணைகள் தொழுதகன்று
தேர்மன்னும் மணிவீதித்
   திருவாக்கூர் சென்றணைந்தார்.



They also hailed the Lord of Tirukkadavoor-Mayanam
Of ever-abiding glory, and hymned there
Many melodic and beauteous psalms and there
Abode in joy; they adored the twin feet of the Lord
Whose throat is like a nimbus, took leave of Him
And proceeded to Tiruvakkoor in whose
Beauteous streets chariots ply.
