Sri Sadguru annnamalai swamigal spiritual Trust has brought out the second Edition of 'Sri Bhagavanum adiyEnum' in Tamizh- the Diary of Annamalai Swami;Swami maintained a diary of Sri Bhagavan's teachings for his use. This Book was published by Swami Hamsananda as 'Sri Ramana NinaivugaL' in 1995 when Annamalai Swami was still living in pallakkoththu.
Hamsananda's preface to the book ends on a note of urgency thus:

"We pray that Devotees with spiritual thirst should without delay visit the Swami, listen to Sri Bhagavan's words of Grace and attain progress. We have brought out in book form what Sri Annamalai Swamigal directly heard from Sri Ramana now and then and wrote down in his Diary.May all Devotees read this JnAna treasure and attain changeless Bliss"

We know Swami attained Mahasamadhi on 9th November ,1995!

The Second edition is spruced up and has some additions in the form of photographs and explanations of the Kaivalya navaneetham verses that figure in the Diary -it has a color photograph of Annamalai Swami sitting in the samadhi room(1990).This room had its walls embellished with the writings of upadesa undiyar and ulladhu narpadhu. This features in this photograph.
Unfortunately the room was given a whitewash and all these writings are washed clean and cannot be seen any longer!Swami had already determined the place where his body had to be interned.
When Swami passed away,I got a postcard from Sri Sundaram, his personal attendant and visited the samadhi room on the ninth day of his attaining Mahasamadhi.I found Sri Ganesan there enquiring Sri Sundaram about the passing away of the swami.

In this new second edition of 'Sri Bhagavanum adiyEnum' (Sri Bhagavan and I, his Devotee) there is scan of the first two pages of the Diary-The First page has a Photograph of Sri Ramakrishna and a Quotation :"whenever Dharma subsides and Adharma is on the rise God Descends as Avatar".

The first entry is on a saturday ,dated 1st January 1938 and it says:

"He alone is a true man who without leaving  self does all the activities that comes his way without any volition".

The Second entry on that day says:

"He who does not think that he is the doer of actions is Greater  than the one who thinks that he has given up everything".

I warmly recommend this rare treasure to all those who understand Tamizh-The Teachings here are of immense practical value for Sadhana. These are also translated in English and feature in the wonderful book-'Living by the words of Bhagavan'.

Yet,the tamizh original of swami has its own charm and is not to be missed.

Those interested may contact Sri Sundaram swami-Mob:+91-9150741455 email
I suggest that you sms him and fix up time before calling him,so as not to disturb him amidst his prayer/meditation.

Swami Shantananda Puri Maharaj , a staunch devotee of Sri Ramana Maharshi and a resident of Sri Ramanasramam passed away on October 14, 2014 at about 1:30PM. His enlightened and inspiring presence at the ashram will be missed by one and all.
Swamiji came to Sri Ramanasramam nearly four decades ago and was a permanent resident of the ashram. He has written ?Sadhanas from Guru Vachaka Kovai?, ?Sadhanas from Devi Kalottaram? and ?Sadhanas from Sri Ramana Gita? and many other books. He has also composed 108 names (ashtotram) on Sri Ramana Maharshi?s mother in Sanskrit which is available as an ashram publication. Swamiji has been compared to Nachiketas for having defied death several years ago and returning from the abode of death after medicos gave up hope.
His Holiness Sri Swami Shantananda Puri Maharaj of Vasishta Guha (Himalayas), was born on 6th May, 1928, in Tiruvaiyaru (the land of five rivers), Tamil Nadu, India. Swamiji is a disciple of Parma poojya Sri Swami Purushottamananda Puri Maharaj, who was the disciple of Swami Brahmananda (the great disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa). Swamiji is a scholar par excellence in vedic scriptures as well as in the puranic texts. His simplicity, transparent deep faith in the divine force and absolute surrender to the Supreme has made him an ideal combination of Jnana and Bhakti.
Title: Sage TGN passes away
Post by: Ravi.N on November 13, 2014, 07:48:15 AM
Sage TGN passed away yesterday (12th) and the physical remains were cremated on the same day.The Tiruppavai thread(incomplete) wherein I have given the inner essence and invaluable insights are based on the wonderful talks of this sage.Over the last few years ,the sage had been gradually withdrawing himself from public view-and those who were fortunate to attend the satsangh on Sundays would have hardly noticed that his health was declining.Over the last few months he was only on liquid diet. Those who have been fortunate enough to have seen and heard him will definitely miss his physical presence.

Dear Sri Ravi

Got the news of passing of Sage TGN through THE HINDU today morning and while his physical presence would be missed ,his teachings would continue to be alive for ever as they are timeless .I am thankful to you for introducing me to Sage TGN first in Dec 2012 when I attended his Thiruppavai Talks during Margazhi in Dec 2012 with you . In Dec 2013 he spoke very less but yet I had the opportunity to see him and listen to his audio talks on Thiruppavai with you . I also got some of his talks on Fate and Free will and keep listening to it and his book on ?Practical Philosophy " is an excellent summary of his teachings that I keep referring to time and again . Was eagerly looking forward to attend few of his talks in Dec 2014 this year . Anyway as I said the person would be missed in the Physical but his talks are available on Audios and we can benefit by listening to them again and again .

Om Peace .

Dear Sri Ravi,

I felt sad when I just came to know from your post that Sage Sri TGN has shed the mortal body and attained Samadhi. However, a Sage is not the physical body, He will remain enshrined in His devotees' hearts, and as Sri Atmavichar said, His teachings would continue to be alive and be the source of Light and Inspiration for His devotees in their spiritual journey. I pay my deep homage to the great Master.

I am sad to hear the news and I also read the obit in Bangalore edition of The Hindu.  His soul would have definitely
merged with the Absolute. My respectful homage to the Sage. You are fortunate to see him and listen to him.
We have no such luck.

Let his soul rest with the Absolute.

Thanks for your kind words of solicitude.TGN called himself 'saadharan'(Ordinary man).He was extraordinary in his ordinariness!A jivanmukta,he carried himself lightly. He was a model human being,a naishtika Brahmachari in the true sense, worked and retired from office(do not know which company/department),always cared for the worker and lowly, disabled.

I had the wonderful opportunity thanks to Sri Ravi to meet and have few words of exchanges with Sage TGN.

Although I have to admit, I found his views for most part alien to my thoughts and perception,  Sage TGN definitely commands our respect for his exalted outlook on life.

His focus on detachment, service and desirelessness,  his exposition on holy scriptures are a source of wealth for his followers.

In this fast moving world, He indeed offered a safe shelter of lifestyle through his teachings which will ensure total safetly from unnecessary worldly troubles that come to one by unwanted desires.

All thanks goes to Sri Ravi for making his teachings known to this forum.

Swami Dayananda Saraswati passed away yesterday at his ashram in Rishikesh:

Got the news earlier from my brother who is right now in Swami Dayananda Ashram in USA .  Swamiji was not in good health for the last few weeks and was mentally preparing all his devotees and students for this final end by giving darshan to all in spite of his illhealth . Swamiji wanted to be by the side of Mother Ganga in his last days and it did happen as per his wish .  I have been immensley benefitted by the Talks and Books of Swami Dayananda ( talks I have attended little but read most of his books which are Transcript of his talks ) and they have given me lot of clarity not just on Advaita Vedanta but also on Sanathana Dharma and the role of Tradition . If today I am able to understand Bhagavan Ramana's teachings  better it is due to the clarity I got through the  excellent and clear interpretations of  the Bhagavad Gita & Other Vedanta Texts  through the teachings of Swami Dayananda and also through his close disciple Swami Paramarthananda who is my Vedanta Teacher and the best being his explanations of Bhagavan Ramana's Upadesa Saram . Ever grateful to Swami Dayananda for helping me get more clarity with regard to not only Advaita Vedanta but also about Sanathana Dharma and though he may no longer be in the body but his teachings are very much alive through his publications and also through some of his excellent disciples ( like Swami Paramarthananda , Swami Guruparananda , Swami Omkarananda  etc etc ) who are great teachers themselves and this teaching tradition will continue .

Chadaiya Nayanar -

Date of liberation to Siva's feet - Margazhi, Ardra Star Day.

Chadaiya Nayanar was the father of the renowned devotee who gave the great Tiruth Thondath Thokai
and considered himself the slave of the slaves of Lord Siva. If we see that many admirable qualities of Sundarar  like his excellent love for the Lord was inherited from his father Chadaiya  Nayanar how
much of praise will be sufficient to say about him ! Tiruk Kural says the duty of the father is to make
the son to be front runner in the assembly of wise. This father has made his son celebrated not in a small assembly of people, but to be praised across the centuries. That father who had the softer than patal feet of God in him and the son was in the God will be remembered with reverence by the true devotees.
Let the love of Chadaiya Nayanar for the Lord of Love stay in the mind.

Arunachala Siva.

Warmly recommend this Hanuman Chalisa by the child sooryagayatri: (
The Chanting of Hanuman Chalisa has been recommended by all great ones as a specific for curing all ills and bestowing Grace.Today is Hanuman Jayanthi as per the Tamil calendar.
Swami Vivekananda always goaded the youth to look upto Lord Hanuman as the perfect ideal:

You have now to make the character of Mahavira your ideal. See how at the command of Ramachandra he crossed the ocean. He had no care for life or death! He was a perfect master of his senses and wonderfully sagacious. You have now to build your life on his great ideal of personal service. Through that, all the other ideals will gradually manifest in life. Obedience to Guru without questioning, and strict observance of Brahmacharya - this is the secret of success. As on the one hand Hanuman represents the ideal of service, so on the other he represents leonine courage, striking the whole world with awe. He has not the least hesitation in sacrificing his life for the good of Rama. A supreme indifference to everything except the service of Rama, even to the attainment of the status of Brahma and Shiva, the great World-Gods! Only the carrying out of Shri Rama's best is the one vow of this life! such whole-hearted devotion is wanted.

For a neat transliteration and word for word translation of this wonderful Hymn please check here: ( (

Dear Sri Ravi

Thanks for sharing the links related to Sri Hanuman Chalisa . Yesterday Only I downloaded the text of Sri Hanuman Pancharatnam by Adi Shankara for chanting today being Hanuman Jayanthi . The Hanuman Chalisa is also a great Hymn very popular in North India and during my visit to Rishikesh ,I participate every evening  in the Ganga Aarathi of Sri Paramath Niketan and this is the first Song that is sung there and I hope to include Hanuman Chalisa also in my Parayanam today . Thanks for sharing the links .

Chakkiya Naynar:

Date of Liberation:  Margazhi - Pooradam:
The Lord whom the people following all the six religions associated with SanAthana dharma reach finally, that Siva had one of the 63 great devotees from one other religion, namely Budhdhism (Chakkiyam). The people who seek the real truth, whatever be the religion they belong to if they do an impartial analysis of Saivism, explore that it is the path of worshipping Siva that is ultimate.

In the place Thiruchchanga Mangai where people had the generous mind like the mother earth, Nayanar was born in a family which had agriculture as their profession. He learnt lots of philosaphy, not for useless debating or grazing to boast as a scholar, but to find out the truth. Hence he had love for all the creatures in this world. He was determined to come out of the birth-death cycle. (reincarnation). He reached the city Kanchi , which had lots of scholars and was synonymous with knowledge, out of his quest for the truth. He accepted the path of Buddhism. There he had the opportunity to explore the principles of Buddhism and other religions. He read the scriptures of his religion and other religions analysed them with unbiased thirst for truth. Our Lord always leads people in the correct way if they are truthful and have quest for Him. By His grace he established for himself that it is the path of Siva that is the ultimate truth.

He found out, "There are four basic elements. The deed, doer, its effect and the controller of the effect. Only Saivam has this excellent principle, and others don't. And Siva is the Truth". His conclusion was based on his analysis. It was beyond doubts. It was the fact explored. He was sure, "Whatever be one's state, whatever be the form and outside appearance the right thing to do is not forgetting the holy feet of Sankara ." So he didn't change his appearance of a Buddhist monk, but was always enjoying the sweet feet of Lord Siva in his heart. It is only the people who do not realize or do not wish to realize that Omnipresent Almighty Isha is the God, blaspheme due to their dependence on other religions. But our Nayanar flowed in the path of love for the God whom he found out to be the right.

Common for the invisible formlessness and the visible different forms is the symbol of the Lord called Sivalingam (symbol of Siva). That stands for both form and formless. Sivalingam appeared when Vishnu and four headed brahma tried to find out the head and feet of the God. It is the symbol of that immeasurable unique in-explainable Almighty. Realizing these concepts he everyday went to see the Sivalingam, and when seen he forgot the world, became the wax that saw the fire, his heart blossomed, eyes expanded in bliss, tears of joy appeared as pearls. He didn't know what to do. He took a stone and threw it on the Lord without the knowledge of what he is doing but with great devotion. The Lord was happy with the deed of His devotee, like the kid that feels good when the elders out of the love violently embrace it. In his routine he arrived the next day as well. He then remembered that he had thrown a stone on the Lord. Thinking that that happened only as a blessing of the Lord he took that as his service to that Easily pleased. That day on wards everyday he throws a stone at the Sivalingam and worship the God in the saffron cloth of the Buddhist monks.

Is it right to throw stone on the Lord and worship ? Won't it lead to misinterpretations ? How did the Lord then accept such a worship ? It was not the stones themselves the Lord accepted. It was the devotion behind that deed he accepted. So one can not argue that, "I too will throw stones and call it worship". Whether it is the stone throwing of Chakkiya Nayanar or Kannappa Nayanar's putting the footwear on the Sivalingam's head, it was not the actions but the unimaginable peaks of love that was accepted by the Lord as flawless. Others see only the stones, but the hara takes that as flower.

One day he forgot to do his duty of stone worship and went to have his food. That time he realized, "Oh! How did I forget my Love ? How can I go ahead with my food without worshipping Him ?". He rushed to the three eyed Lord's abode with flood like love and speed. He took a stone and offered it to the feet of God. To bless the devotee who forgot his food, rushed in anxiety to do the service he undertook without any break, the eight armed sugarcane - Sambu - appeared in the horizon on the holy Bull with the Goddess who has the best knowledge of the Agamas. The devotee prostrated, praised the Lord with the folded hands on his head. God offered him the coveted post of being His slave in the Sivaloka. Let the quest for the Absolute and the love that is beyond explanation stay in the mind.

Arunachala Siva.

Yes,truly gifted and the credit should go to her mentor Sri Kuldeep pai who I understand frequents talks of Nochur Sri Venkatraman. He sang at one of the recent talks in English on Akshara Mana Malai by Sri Venkatraman at Sri Ramanasramam.
There is such a purity and joi de vivre in the singing of little sooryagayatri-how easily her voice soars in the high register and at the same time full of Bhava and devotion. What a diction to top it all!
you will also enjoy her excellent rendering of mudakaratha modakam,Bhagyada lakshmi baramma and harivarasanam.Pls refer: ( ( (

Dear Ravi and atmavichar,

Let us see the Tiruppavai verse that speaks of koodaravalli:

If the gopis sing the glory of Govinda, they get many things from Govinda. Govinda is one who
wins over those who do not join Him but are against Him.

If the gopis sing the praise of Govinda, they get many gifts.  So also we.  They get various ornaments.
After wearing them, they wear nice dresses. Thereafter they eat pal soRu, with mood nei peithu...

They take sarkarai pongal (with cashews, dry grapes, and krambu) with great amount of sweet
in it.  On the sarkarai pongal, pure cow ghee is served, and this ghee completely hide the sarkarai
pongal.  After eating sumptuously, they stay together and enjoy the chill wind of Margazhi month.

(Those days people did not cholesterol problem though they consume good quantity of ghee)

What a wonderful description!     The phrase, 'koodarai vellum' became 'koodaravalli'
and the celebration today came into practice and this is called koodara valli!
There should be some 'hidden' or esoteric meaning for this verse.  Only Ravi can give us what
it is.

Arunachala Siva.

Am unfortunate incident happened yesterday in Thiruvanamalai when 4 people died while taking holy bath in the Ayyankulam Tank and one of them happened to be Prof.Manikandan , an Ashram Priest , Volunteer and a great Devi Upasaka and the following is a piece from Ramana Ashram FB Post .

Mahodaya Punyakala Ayyankulam pond dipping event turned tragic claiming at least four lives. Ashram reports with great sadness the loss of the life of one of its most valuable priest-volunteers Prof. Manikandan of SKP Engineering college, Tiruvannamalai. The attached Navaratri decorations and Sri Vidya havan worship speak for themselves for the greatness of this great Devi Upasaka.
Between 6:30 AM and 6:40 AM there was some commotion as devotees were standing on the steps of the Ayyankulam tank. Some twenty people slipped and fell in the Pond. Many of them were rescued but some were caught in the sludge below the water and lost their lives. We pray to Sri Ramana Maharshi to grant peace to his relatives and friends in this difficult time.

Aksharamana malai verse 2

May Thou and I be one and inseparable like Alagu and Sundara, O Arunachala!

Friends, I warmly recommend you to watch Inside Out an animation movie.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it's no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions - Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness. The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley's mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley's main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

This is so true to each one of us. It is a wonderful new insight on how we view our various emotions.

All of us have various brain functions that govern our response to various situations. The functions responsible for Happiness, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust are characterized and the details of the activities they do to run the life of a young Girl Riley right from her birth is what drives the story. When a sudden change in the life or Riley upsets their rhythm, they try to control the situation too much, which creates more confusion for Riley. Their adventures in an attempt to restore normalcy is what forms the crux of this movie.

Sri TKV Desikachar( 1938-2016)  , founder of the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram ( KYM)  passed away today ( 8 Aug 2016 ) in Chennai .One of my main inspirations to be on the path of Yoga was Sri TKV Desikachar's book "Heart of Yoga " .Though I was not part of the KYM Organization and all my Yoga learning was through the Sivananda Organization yet I learnt a lot from Sri TKV Desikachar's books and talks and I still read them to refine my knowledge and practice in the Science of Yoga . The world has missed a great Yoga Teacher in Sri TKV Desikchar and the loss is not just to his family or the KYM Institution but to the whole Yoga Community world over . Sri Desikachar taught Yoga to JK .He has penned some very good reminiscences of JK....JK had sent word to Sri Krishnamacharya(founder of Krishnamacharya Yoga mandiram-KYM in short) expressing his desire to learn Yoga...K said that he has to first examine JK before committing.....and he sent his son Sri Desikachar to find out about JK(and his yoga practice till then)....Desikachar met JK and JK showed him the various Yoga postures that he was practising until then....Desikachar reported what he saw to his father....Sri Krishnamacharya sent word through his son that JK must forget all that and learn it anew....JK readily consented and within 3 days he learnt the Yoga postures from Desikachar  ....there was no trace of his former practices!....JK always used to get up, offer a seat to Desikachar and sat only after his 'Teacher' sat!

KYM has been doing very good service by way of offering Yoga lessons to all laymen.Sri Desikachar was instrumental in bringing about all this.

Regarding the post by Ravi.  Krishnamurti treated everyone this way and not just Desikachar who happened to be his teacher.  He was invariably the last to sit at meetings after making sure everyone was seated. At meals he was the last person to be served and he most often held the door open for others to enter a room. For any visitor who came to meet him, he offered a choice of being seated on the floor mat or on a sofa.  After the visitor had made his choice and seated himself Krishnamurti would then sit beside him.

Srimati Sulochana Natarajan passed away on August 23, 2016 in Bengaluru. She had the good fortune of having darshan of Sri Ramana Mahashi in 1949 when she was twelve years old. Even at that tender age she was able to feel the Peace of the presence of Bhagavan. While on a visit with her parents she closed her eyes and mentally repeated prayers on Lord Muruga known to her. When she opened her eyes she saw Bhagavan fixing His gaze on her, which filled her with deep joy. She was married to Sri A R Natarajan in the month of February 1952. The first song she learned to sing on Bhagavan was Manavasi Ramaswami Iyer?s saranagati song. While in New Delhi Prof K Swaminathan gave her a copy of Ramana sannaadhi murai and asked her to read it. Upon opening the book the first song she found was ?Namo Ramanayave? which she set to music and sang in the next sat sangh. Soon she was to start the Ramananjali group which gave expression to the glory of Sri Ramana Maharshi by means of songs and dance. She set to music Bhagavan?s teachings and life in beautiful music under the title of Ramana Sangeetam.
We offer our homage to this great devotee who through the medium of music spread the teachings of Ramana Maharshi throughout the world. Her demise will be a great loss to the wonderful service she and her group of dedicated followers were rendering to the world. It is certain that this great devotee has reached the feet of Arunachala Ramana.

A classic Tirukkural translation is reborn (

Balasubramaniam?s book is being released 54 years after it was first published

At a public lecture on May 13, 1961 at the Kapaleeswarar temple in Chennai, one member of the audience, Sarvepalli S. Radhakrishnan listened attentively to K.M. Balasubramaniam, who was speaking on the Periyapuranam . Impressed with the talk, he urged the speaker to devote his skills and translate the Tirukkural into English, just as he had rendered the Thiruvachagam .

Balasubramaniam, whose work on Manickavachagar?s composition had earned him the title of Thiruvachakamani, told Dr. Radhakrishnan, who was then the Vice-President, that he was on the job. The author then expressed his wish that he become the President. That moment came exactly a year later, on May 13. The year also witnessed the release of Balasubramaniam?s Tirukkural work, dedicated to Dr. Radhakrishnan, who had written the preface.

Now, 54 years later, the same book will be released on Wednesday for a new generation of readers.

?In Tamil literature, commentators with felicity of expression matching the original authors were placed on a par with them. K.M. Balasubramaniam was one such commentator,? said Sivalayam J. Mohan, publisher of the book. He has already published Balasubramaniam?s Thiruvachagam .

As an ardent disciple of Dravidar Kazhagam founder Periyar and subsequently, as collaborator of DMK founder C.N. Annadurai, he accompanied the two leaders to Bombay to meet Mohamed Ali Jinnah to discuss the idea of ?Dravida Nadu? (Dravidian land). ?Later, he became a spiritualist and delved deep into philosophy and Saivite literature. But he had a rational approach towards his translation. He even started translating Periyapuranam , but died in 1974 without completing it,? said Mr Mohan, an engineer-turned-entrepreneur.

Comprehensive, poetic

Many scholars including Rev. Fr. C.J. Beschi, popularly known as ?Viramaamunivar?, G.U. Pope, freedom fighter V.V.S. Iyer, Rajaji and V.R. Ramachandra Dikshitar have produced translations of the Tirukkural , but Balasubramaniam?s version was, to many, more comprehensive and poetic.

The point is reiterated by Kamil Zvelebil, who in his preface to the book, had said, ?at last the English speaking world will be in possession of a poetic translation of Tirukkural , in possession of an able rendering of this unique Tamil classic into English verse, which is without exaggeration and almost adequate to the original.?

Balasubramaniam also rendered into English the commentaries of Parimelazhagar, Manakudavar, and Kalingarayar, drawing substantially from parallels in the Bible and the Koran, from Shakespeare, Milton, Alexander Pope, Dryden, George Herbert, Francis Bacon and Dr. Johnson. In fact, 50 per cent of the 530 pages in the book are dedicated to detailed notes.

Suddhananda Bharathi, who has also translated Tirukkural into English, describes the essence of the book thus: ?the author takes the ideas of Valluvar, and embellishes them, so the reader needs no other commentary.?

Thanks Balaji for sharing the info on the death of Soolamangalam Jeyalakshmi and it is a not a normal coincidence but a divine coincidence that she passed on the day of Sashti . If today Skanda Sasahti Kavacham and Skanda Guru Kavacham are popular then the credit definitely goes to Soolamangalam Sisters .

Warmly recommend this wonderful talk on the life of Tapovanam maharaj(guru of swami chinmayananda): (

Sadhu sangha is one of the best ways to orient ourselves to the spiritual path amidst our busy workaday schedules...there is no substitute for such a satsangh.

Swami Tapovanam maharaj's autobiography 'Iswara darshan' is a wonderful account should be available for purchase from Chinmaya Mission.
Swami Tapovan maharaj's 'Wandering in the Himalayas' is another excellent account of how  a jivanmukta views his rambles in the everything is Brahman alone.

Warmly recommend these two wonderful books.

Atma Vidya is the science of the Self so to say...and as such is the king of all sciences ...and hence denomination less...Anyone who is receptive and has earnestness can learn the fundamentals and reap the benefit...All religions in their kernel, have these principles governing the outer forms they may espouse.

'I AM THAT I AM' (Notes of a lecture give in San Francisco by Swami Vivekananda on March 20, 1900) explains the science of Atma Vidya in a straight forward fashion and clarifies everything simply without any sort of technical jargon.

Here are two wonderful presentations of songs on Lord Krishna:
1. (
"Krishna Nee Begane Vaaro'-Beautiful presentation of the song of Vyasa Raya on Udipi Baby Krishna set in the enchanting Raga Yamuna Kayanai...The Singing is top notch, the Dance is wonderfully expressive and the paining depicts the Tri-banga(bent in three places) aspect -As Sri Ramakrishna beautifully said that this is the Love aspect that bends the rigid frame of the body and makes it so flexible...All the 3 Artists do a marvellous job and the Triveni (confluence of 3 Rivers)is wonderful.

2. (
'Alai Paayuthey' (My mind is tossed like a wave)This is a beautiful composition of the great devotee /composer Otthukkaadu Venkatasubhia Kavi...with English subtitles to follow the song....The Raga is Kaanada...all presented in fusion form but well done...No gimmickry.

Warmly Recommended.

The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna

Thanks very much...Yes friend ....Truly the multifaceted aspect of the Master is always enchanting and casts a spell...He is a Jnani of Jnanis,Bhakta of Bhaktas and yogin of Yogins...unfathomable and yet so accessible...One of the most enchanting question that he puts over and over again to 'M' is 'What do you think of me'!!!...this was his childlike way of trying to plumb the mind of the see whether the disciple could discover the multifacted aspect of the master...and 'm''s responses were equally enchanting...what a great soul he was!...He was as hollow as a bamboo and was filled with the divine and thus became the 'Bhagavatha Pandit' as the Master refers to him in the Gospel...No interpretation of the least kind but just the Master's words as they issued from the lips...No embellishment of it in any way...There are great devotees but they had their own vasanas and their account was colored by those vasanas...not so 'M'...he was just a pure medium for transcribing the master's words as it is...the very words of the master and nothing but much so that he received praise from the Master himself.
The Gospel is a wonderful resource of Jnana,Bhakti,Yoga and Karma in a wonderful spontaneous and easy synthesis...all laced with the sweet honey of Sri Ramakrishna's words...Truly a one of a kind wonder.

In answer to the Master's examination,M says:

1.As Sri Ramakrishna walked up and down the hall with M., he said to him:
"Let me ask you something. What do you think of me?"
M. remained silent.
Again Sri Ramakrishna asked: "What do you think of me? How many annas of knowledge of God have I?"
M: "I don't understand what you mean by 'annas'. But of this I am sure: I have never before seen such knowledge, ecstatic love, faith in God, renunciation, and catholicity anywhere."(How true-Ravi)
The Master laughed.

2.MASTER: Now and then I think, 'What is it I know that makes so many people come to me?' Vaishnavcharan was a great pundit. He used to say to me: 'I can find in the scriptures all the things you talk about. But do you know why I come to you? I come to hear them from your mouth.'
M: "All your words tally with the scriptures. Navadvip Goswami also said that the other day at the festival at Panihati. You told us that day that by repeating the word 'Gita' a number of times one reverses it and it becomes 'tagi', which refers to renunciation. Renunciation is the essence of the Gita. Navadvip Goswami supported your statement from the grammatical standpoint."
MASTER: "Have you found anyone else resembling me-any pundit or holy man?"
M: "God has created you with His own hands, whereas He has made others by machine. All others He has created according to law."(What a bull's eye by Sri M!-Ravi)
MASTER (laughing, to Ramlal and the other devotees): "Listen to what he is saying!"
Sri Ramakrishna laughed for some time, and said at last. "Really and truly I have no pride;no, not even the slightest bit."

3.MASTER: "Well, do you find me to be like anybody else?"
M: "No, sir."
MASTER: "Like any other paramahamsa?"
M: "No, sir. You can't be compared to anybody else."
MASTER (smiling): "Have you heard of a tree called the 'achina'?"
M: "No, sir."
MASTER: "There is a tree called by that name. But nobody knows what it is."
M: "Likewise, it is not possible to recognize you. The more a man understands you, the more uplifted he will be."

4.Ishan took his leave and Sri Ramakrishna talked with M. No one else was present. He asked M. what he thought of Narendra, Rakhal, Adhar, and Hazra, and whether they were guileless. "And", asked the Master, "what do you think of me?".
M. said: "You are simple and at the same time deep. It is extremely difficult to understand you."
Sri Ramakrishna laughed.

Thanks very much Jewell...I tend to lose my bearings when I start eulogizing this book...This is for those new to the master and this wonderful 'The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna'...Many imagine that 'Sri Ramakrishna is a great Bhakta' or 'a devotee of Mother kali' or 'Guru of the Famous Swami Vivekananda',etc,etc...The above passages from The gospel of Sri Ramakrishna would intrigue and the fortunate devotee would discover an inexhaustible treasure offered in simple and accessible style, sometimes even as a piece of interesting Gossip!...An enchanting work.

Dear Sri Ravi,

He is a Jnani of Jnanis,Bhakta of Bhaktas and yogin of Yogins...unfathomable and yet so accessible...

You speak so beautifully about Sri Ramakrishna, and this is one wonderful way to describe Him!
And more i read the Gospel, more am i enchanted with Him. Indeed,He acted like a child. This is something i love very much about Sri Ramakrishna.

Interesting,i find Him to be,somehow, most accessible. So simple and so great in the same time.

The Gospel is indeed a true treasure! We can see how He acted, what kind of teachings He gave to His disciples,His daily routine, and His thoughts on so many subject.

And i agree about M completely! I have noticed His conversations with Sri Ramakrishna, abut all paths of Yoga, about devotees and similar. Many times Sri Ramakrishna asked for His opinion, and M always spoke so wisely. Just recently i have read few chapters where He comments many things with the Master, and gives such deep and profound answers. Even when He speaks with other devotees, And Sri Ramakrishna loves to ask Him this and that. It is so sweet!

Thank You for sharing everything about our Sweet,Great and Wonderful Sri Ramakrishna Paramhamsa!

With love,

Death of Rukku, elephant  at Arunachaleswarar Temple

Rukku was brought to Arunachaleswarar Temple at the very young age of 3 years. She remained alone and in service at the Temple for 27 years after she had been given to the Temple by the Tamil Nadu Government

Her death is believed to have occurred as a result of  injuries sustained when she was being walked on her way to her enclosure. While walking through the Temple's fifth prakaram a pack of dogs barked and ran towards it. Rukku tried to run away and hit a barricade. The mahout and a few others managed to calm her and gave her water. After a while, she was taken to her shed. However, Rukku panicked when a dog ran towards it. When she tried to run away, she hit a tin sheet and sustained multiple injuries.

Temple authorities engaged a veterinarian, however Rukku died within two hours of the accident. 15 days before her 30th birthday

She was laid to rest near Anjeneyar Temple (Vada Othavadai Street) in the afternoon after a team of six veterinarians performed a postmortem.

A senior forest department official said they had collected samples of vital organs for a detailed analysis to ascertain the cause of the death. It will take two week to get the report, added the official.

Hundreds of devotees and residents of Tiruvannamalai paid homage to their beloved elephant whom they called Rukku. One of the priests in the temple said Rukku was gentle. The sudden death of the elephant disturbs us. We offered special prayers.

ஆவான் யார்?' என, அன்பின் இறைஞ்சினான்;
'தேவா! நின் கழல் சேவிக்க வந்தனென்;

Today (10th April 2018) is the Aradhanai day of Sadhu Om Swamigal, a great disciple of Bagavan Sri Ramana Maharishi. He ia a great example for Guru Bakthi and being a gifted poet his Prarthanai slogams and songs on his Guru Ramana Maharishi, would melt anyone.s heart. Let us recollect him in our memory on this day and pray for his blessings. For those who have not heard about him let this brief be useful.
Sri Sadhu Om (1922 ‒ 1985)
Sri Sadhu Om, sometimes called Sri Sadhu Om Swamigal by his friends and admirers, was a poet, author, and direct disciple of Ramana Maharshi. Other direct disciples of Ramana regarded him as an authority on Ramana's teachings, and his book on Self-enquiry is often taken as the definitive textbook on that practice. He was Muruganar's literary executor and has translated and edited a number of works in collaboration with Michael James.
Sri Sadhu Om was born in Thanjavur District in Tamil Nadu, India, in 1922. He first heard of Ramana in 1943 when he read Suddhananda Bharati's book Sri Ramana Vijayam, a Tamil biography of Ramana. Two years later he went to see Ramana for the first time. He later described his arrival:
When I entered the hall I wanted to see Bhagavan [Ramana] but I only saw a sofa and no one sitting on it. I was surprised to see, however, that everyone else was doing namaskarams towards that sofa. When I was hesitating whether to do namaskarams, I began to notice the vague outline of a human figure sitting on the sofa. At once I prostrated. When I got up, I saw that vague figure slowly solidifying and becoming clear. Then only was I able to recognize it as Sri Bhagavan.
Sri Sadhu Om's association with Ramana Maharshi lasted four years from July 1946 until Ramana's death in April 1950.
Sri Muruganar, often regarded as Ramana's foremost disciple, designated Sri Sadhu Om as his literary executor because, according to David Godman, he was the only person who fully understood his works.
Sadhu Om's Works
Hard copies of Sadhu Om's writings are published in Tamil and English by Arunachala Ramana Book Trust which is located in Tiruvannamalai, India.
