Title: Musings over Death - 1
Post by: Subramanian.R on July 07, 2009, 07:30:44 PM
On this Guru Purnima day, one should remember the Guru
and also the fuitlity of life and definiteness of death that
is staring us all the time.  Nochur Venkataraman told one

There is a patient admitted after heart attack, in the hospital
for a bypass surgery.  All relatives are weeping.  They all
go to the Chief Cardiac Surgeon and tell him:  "You are God
for us.  Please save this patient.  Money does not matter.
Please do the necessary surgery immediately."

The proud Surgeon comes and looks at the patient, his ECG,
etc., and tells his assistants:  "Please arrange for everything
for a bypass surgery and I shall start the work at 10 am tomorrow.  He then comes out and beamingly tells the relatives:
"Look, I am here and there is nothing to worry.  I shall finish
the surgery tomorrow. Please bring Rs 8 lakhs tomorrow,
preferably cash and come to the hospital by 9 am.

The relatives were quite relieved and they all came to the hospital well prepared in the morning.  It is 10 am, it is
10.30 am, the doctor did not turn up.  Around 11 am, a call
came from his residence, saying that the doctor had passed
away due to a cardiac attack the previous night!

This is exactly what is said in Verse 2 of Sad Darsnam.  We
are living in Paraspara Mrutyu, the mutual definiteness of
death!  For people who are living in constant shadow of death,
it is Siva's feet that is our refuge.  This is Saranagati.

Arunachala Siva.
