Title: Kamba Ramayana and other books
Post by: Subramanian.R on February 08, 2009, 12:46:05 PM
In May 1937, one day some one asked Bhagavan Ramana whether He had read Kamba Ramayana.

Bhagavan said: No. I have not read anything.  All my learning is limited to what I learnt before my 14th year. Since then I have had no inclination to read anything or learn.  People wonder how I speak of Bhagavad Gita, etc., It is due to heresay.  I have not read Gita nor waded through its commentaries for its meaning.  When I hear a sloka I think that its meaning is clear and I say it.  That is all and nothing more.  Similarly with my other quotations.  They come out naturally.  I realize that the Truth is beyond speech and intellect.  Why then should I project the mind to read, understand and repeat stanzas etc.?  The purpose is to know the Truth.  The purpose having been gained, there is no use engaging in studies.

Someone remarked if Bhagavan had been inclined to study, there would not be a saint today!

Bhagavan: Probably all my studies were finished in past births and I was surfeit.  Therefore, no samskara operating now in that direction.

Dear srkudai,

If our prarabdha decides we may have to read some books.  Bhagavan Ramana has said that "limitless reading has no use."
(Who am I?).

I have now confined myself to reading books on/about/by
Bhagavan Ramana, advaita texts, and the twelve book on
Siva Canon, in Saiva Siddhantam.

Dear srkudai,

I fully agree with your points.  We are always the Self.  What is
obstructing our realization is the ego.  Sandhya Vandhana Mantram
says: Asa Adityo Brahmam. Brahmaivahamasmi.  (Aikya-anusanthana mantram).  "This Sun is Brahman. I am also Brahman."
What is the difference?  The mighty ego. When the ego vanishes, I am Sun  who is Brahman.

Life would not change miraculuously after Self Realization. Quite
correct.  We shall live, we shall eat, we shall watch TV, we shall sleep
and sometimes we shall dream also.  What will happen is the peace within.

The world will not change.  The world would look as Brahma Swarupa.  Everything is good.  They are scenes in a film.  There will be many things.  Mumbai terrorism, Obama becoming the President.
Two satellites colliding in the space.  But all these are peace and we are peace.

There will not be any miracles.  We shall continue to miss our car keys.  We shall continue to miss our spectacles.  But we are peace.

There will be pain and pleasure.  My back ache will be there sometimes.  Food will be very tasty on certain days.  There may be a power cut while I write this and before completion and posting, the computer fails, due to power cut.  But we are peace.

Perhaps only thing we have to do is to desire the Self and desire peace, peace that passeth understanding.  Bhagavan's Presence would make the miseries less painful and make the pleasures more
enjoyable.

There will be time, there will be time,
When everything looks alike!

1) of your post was wonderfull

and of course when I just simply see that this moment-this person-this heart is allready the self, then everyhting shifts...its all fresh, new, whole and blissfull like a wonderfull relaxed game, joyfull playfull...wonderfull..Iam That, Iam this cosmos...and I always know deep within that this bliss is without end, it feels like it is always accessible always there in all situations...and this makes me such a happy little ant on this ant farm called earth...

just some things do I need to learn: to trust always fully, to surrender totally to this, to make this insight my self...I just really have to understand that Iam allready this...not just on some shifts from time to time...but allways..and this is grace and work am I right? I will work as much and as good as I can...with patience and dilligence

Iam very gratefull for this great community and for the teachings and guidance of bhagawan..

Love to you all

Dear srkudai,

Yes. 'Leaving the thread' is a wonderful expression.  All the threads
are with Siva.  He is the puppeter and we are the puppets.  He only
operates the threads.  We cannot operate the threads ourselves.
On a few days I used to tell Ramana: "O Bhagavan, I am playing
cards with you.  But all the cards are with you.  You give me some cards and we play.  But still, all the triumph cards are with you.
When you withdraw the cards, the game is over!"
